How to read this almanac

Twelve months of thirty days, from Vendémiaire to Fructidor, then five complementary days — six in leap years, with the day of the Revolution. Each month divides into three decades: primidi, duodi, tridi, quartidi, quintidi, sextidi, septidi, octidi, nonidi, décadi.

The quintidi is given to an animal, the décadi to a tool. The other days bear a plant, except in Nivôse, the month of minerals. The names are those of the decree of 4 Frimaire, year II. The year opens at the true autumn equinox, on the meridian of Paris.

Decimal time divides the day into ten hours of a hundred minutes of a hundred seconds. Noon falls near 5 decimal hours.
